BACKYARD BEEKEEPERS has an emergency response service to collect and re-hive swarms and feral colonies from all areas in and around Melbourne and many regional centers throughout Victoria.

BACKYARD BEEKEEPERS safely and efficiently remove swarms of bees and nests of bees and relocate them to one of our many apiaries, where the bees can enjoy a healthy and productive life. Bees collected are re-homed into a quarantine hive where they are checked for disease, and provided with an opportunity to strengthen their numbers and produce honey and other hive products.

Spring and Summer is the SWARMING season. Swarming is a natural phenomenon which enables the bees to ensure the survival of their species. The hive will produce a new queen which will eventually leave the hive taking a large percentage of the bees with her to establish a new colony. Swarms of bees numbering in the tens of thousands can be seen flying around looking for a suitable spot to call home. They will often be seen in a huge mass hanging from a tree, fence post or shrub. The queen will be in the middle protected by her workers. Scout bees will be actively flying around seeking a suitable place for a permanent colony. This can be in a hollow of a tree, the wall of a house, abandoned possum or bird nesting boxes etc. Were a swarm is located, it is very important that the bees are left undisturbed. Our Honey

Our natural honey is cold extracted, filtered and put in jars. It is natural, pure Australian honey. We also stock un extracted honey still in the honey comb.
